Introducing Revolutionary Ecology

Revolutionary Ecology is a new collaborative media site which analyzes topics such as environmentalism, animal rights, and the ecological effects of capitalism through the lens of historical materialism.
More specifically, some of the issues we hope to tackle include:
- Capitalism’s inherent destruction of the natural environment.
- Ecological unequal exchange: the transfer of natural resources to the First World from the Third World, and the return of pollution and waste to Third from the First World.
- Environmentalism and animal rights as ideology; critique of reformist and reactionary trends within ‘green’ movements.
- The direct, practical effect of revolutionary struggles on local ecologies.
- The possibility of building broad support and solidarity with national liberation and proletarian revolution via issues like environmentalism and animal rights.
- The necessity of conceptualizing and enacting a socialism which alters both the relations of production and the relationship of production toward the natural environment.
We want to cultivate revolutionary Marxism within existing environmentalist and animal rights movements. Furthermore, we want to help build widespread solidarity in the global north alongside growing revolutionary struggles in the global south. Above all, we want to do our part to overthrow capitalist-imperialism, to sow the seeds of a new world based equality, mutuality, conscious ecological co-dependence.
We believe in the dialectical unity between theory and practice. Practice is best guided by theory which is best informed by practice. Conversely, practice without theory is like groping in the dark, while theory without practice is useless. We hope Revolutionary Ecology can be part of a bridge between theory and practice by illuminating the underlying causes of the issues of concern for the environmental movement, and more importantly by uniting in conscious and objective terms movements for environmental justice and animal rights with movements for global revolution.
Revolutionary Ecology accepts submissions of written and other media from anyone who desires to promote a better understanding of ecological problems caused by the capitalist mode of production. For more information or to submit content, write to us at aspenxvx@gmail.com.
